Abstract
The study of the Law on Obligations and Contracts is the first in a series of business law subjects that a student enrolled in a business course is required to take. It covers the general principles of obligations and contracts in the Civil Code of the Philippines, as distinguished from that of the succeeding business law subjects each of which deals on a more specific area of law that includes the contracts of sale, agency, partnership and bailment, negotiable instruments and private corporations.
This book aims to aid the student in acquiring adequate knowledge 'on the basic legal principles of obligations and contracts which he can avail himself of not only when he graduates to the higher business law subjects, but also when he goes outside the academe to face the real world, so to speak, as he transacts his own business with other people and the government and other entities. In aiding the student, the author has endeavored to explain the provisions by using simple language and illustrating them with examples, both practical and based on cases decided by the courts, and citing the opinions of legal scholars on the subject. To test the student’s understanding of the legal principles, a comprehensive exercise is presented after each main topic.
