Teaching Profession has been established to be not a job but a calling, a mission and a form of great service. Teaching has become very complex and demanding of the teachers’ knowledge, skills, and values needed in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities for the 21st century teaching-learning arena. Teachers must have global skills and perspectives in their teaching approaches for they are key players in ensuring high quality education, skills, and career preparedness for all young people. Teachers must not only be knowledgeable, competent, skillful but also behavior and multi-culture specialists to be able to apply differentiated instruction and understand diverse learning needs. Teachers must have multimedia technology skills for enlisting unique resources to meet learning styles of students.

The high demands for career-long learning for teachers necessitate knowledge of a framework that can increase collaborative nature of teaching and learning. Teachers must learn the concept of team endeavor and must engage learners to perform learning tasks according to target learning goals. Gone are the days when teachers conduct lectures while students passively take lecture notes for summative assessments of knowledge input. Today, educational landscape with highly diverse learners needs curriculum design like Outcome-Based Education (OBE) which puts premium on learning results that teachers want the learners to demonstrate relative to the target learning goals.

This book, The Teaching Profession, will provide future teachers a walkthrough of the process of OBE which will better equip them with teaching designs, learning activities and varied forms of assessment for global learners.
