Abstract
Every day, two-thirds of Filipinos go to work. We spend eight to twelve hours a day earning a living, and will do so for most of our lives. Work and organizations thus become vital factors that shape our well-being and quality of life.
On the other hand, because organizations are social constructions, the success of an organization depends on how well it can harness its human resources. What motivates people? What distinguishes those who perform and do not? What makes some work groups excel more than others? How can change be instituted? These are some of the questions that leaders of organizations grapple with every day.
Our world and country is at the cusp of change. With political changes, shifts in economic policies, and the ubiquitous problems of climate change and poverty, it is all the more important for institutions to continue being stable but dynamic. At the same time, all these changes challenge our workers to be productive and resilient. We hope this second ‘ edition of Understanding the Filipino Worker and Organization, will be even more relevant in helping our leaders better understand and motivate Filipino workers and organizations today.
