Abstract
he Family Cluster Model is an educational mode of learning for well-functioning families and, therefore, is not therapy nor counseling. These modalities .are based on the medical model of pathology and sickness. Enrichment is based on the educational model of normal development and learning.
The Family Cluster’s contribution to the wider field of family enrichment is that
- it develops a support group for families in which they can grow and receive caring;
- it enables families to work on their own concerns, questions, hopes, problems, and dreams in order to develop more awareness and self-direction;
-it allows for celebration and worship of the in-depth experiences of life;
-it teaches skills to family members so that they are enabled to live together more harmoniously.
Since there has been no single book written specifically on family enrichment, this book sets forth that modality. Various forms of enrichment which affect the family have been described elsewhere:
- individual enrichment which enhances one individual’s growth,
- marriage enrichment which enhances the relationship of the married couple,
-parent enrichment which enhances the relationships between parent and child.
Family enrichment cannot be only for the adults of the family, nor can it be only for one part of the unit. Family enrichment must deal with all members of the family unit as a total human process in itself. The outline of the book includes:
Chapter l-The family’s influence on individuals and need for support groups
Chapter 2-The development of the Family Cluster Model
Chapter 3-How to foster Family Clusters within a congregation
Chapter 4-The various models of family enrichment and a process for selection
Chapter 5-Curriculum and resources for family enrichment
Chapter 6-Leadership within family groups
Chapter 7-Adaptations of the Family Cluster and the need for a total emphasis of family ministries for churches.
This book will be of use to anyone who wants to learn about family enrichment and its implementation in an organized setting.
