Abstract
Society and Culture with Family Planning: A Modular Approach presents a simple and brief explanation of society and culture. It introduces the subject in a distinct way not by being too historical in approach and too loaded with theories, but by using instructional modules that fit the Philippine context.
Each module is composed of lessons that are presented in a clear and sequential manner to establish connection and continuity. An overview is provided in each module to serve as a backgrounder of the lessons tackled.
Each lesson contains specific objectives to guide both educators and students. Likewise an overview is offered before the lesson proper. The lesson also includes various learning tasks in the form of questions that test students’ knowledge of factual information, and several activities that develop their critical thinking skills.
This book presents relevant and up-to-date information from the National Statistics Office and other government agencies. It also proposes alternative solutions to various social problems such as social deviation, poverty, and overpopulation, as well as thoroughly and objectively discusses the Reproductive Health Bill.
Lastly, it is hoped that through this book, students will be able to gain a broader understanding of society and culture by being sensitive and non-judgmental of other cultures-thus attaining one of the goals of studying sociology.
