Abstract
This book was written with the undergraduate students in mind without job or industry experience or anyone Who wishes to be introduced to the theories and principles of strategic management. Hence, terms, phrases, and discussions were in the simplest manner possible in a way that the ideas and principles projected by the author can be understood and internalized by the college students presumed to be in their senior years. Being an integrative subject, strategic management requires prior knowledge in basic business management subject such as principles of management, fundamentals in accounting and economics, business organizations, business finance, business research, and the like. As students from various schools have different curricular orientations and level of preparations for the challenges that await senior or graduating students, some fundamental theories were discussed in the first three chapters of the book.

To prepare the readers and learners on the subject matter, the author discussed backgrounder and fundamentals from Chapter 1 to Chapter 3. These chapters give the learner some basic ideas about the evolution of business policy, strategy and strategic managements as well as various theories in marketing, economics, production management, deemed contributory to a better understanding of the need to adopt strategic management in business organizations.

Strategizing by itself is not the turf of an inexperienced individual Hence, to fill the gap of having no work experience, student learners are introduced to basic theories in the early chapters of the book. After being introduced to applicable fundamentals discussed from Chapters 1 to 3, readers are introduced to the core aspects of strategic management commencing with corporate strategies, business level and functional strategies which are the topics discussed in Chapter 4 and Chapter 5. The concepts of supply and value chain are discussed in Chapter 6 to further educate the learners as to what can be done beyond the business operations of the firm itself to improve its competitiveness.

Strategic management tasks or models espoused by various authors are discussed in Chapter 7. From the various models advocated by several authors, a hybrid model was developed by the author citing six major tasks that need to be undertaken when addressing strategic management in the work place. The various tasks that need to be undertaken are discussed at length allowing one chapter for each task from Chapter 8 to Chapter 13.

Preparatory to developing business level strategy are discussions on industry situation analysis presented in Chapter 14. The book culminated with discussions on generic competitive strategies as well as offensive and defensive strategies as discussed in Chapter 15.

To be able to diagnose the firm from financial standing, various formulas on financial ratios and their interpretation are presented in Appendix A. To provide a venue for relating the theories and principles discussed in various chapters of the book, short cases using local companies formed part of the contents of the book and the cases are presented as Appendix B.
