Creative Arts, Music, and Drama for Young Children is a book about fostering and nurturing creativity in young children through the creative arts, music, and dramatic play. The content of this book is aligned with the competencies outlined by the Commission on Higher Education for students of Early Childhood Education.

This book offers a synthesis of practical ideas gleaned from various studies and research. It incorporates the insights and viewpoints that the author has gained from thirty years of experience teaching in all levels, from preschool to college. It is further enriched by the ideas the author has gathered from interactions with other educators, school administrators, and early childhood education experts while observing, training, or participating in the classroom or in various seminar-workshops. This book speaks first and foremost to students who are now preparing themselves to work with children in the early childhood education setting. It is also addressed to anyone whether parent, teacher, school administrator or caregiver, who will directly or indirectly work with young children.

The author firmly believes that a teacher plays a vital role in the total development of a child. The early childhood teacher, more than anyone, will most directly influence the young children of our future. Thus, teachers need to be empowered so that they can develop a style and method of fostering the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth of children while allowing them to nurture their inherent creativity. It is the purpose of this book to address this need by helping teachers to gain the knowledge and skill they need to plan and implement an effective creative curriculum,

This book offers varied ways to plan and deliver a rich, open-ended, developmentally appropriate and challenging self-expressive activity. Also, the use of the computer and other gadgets as learning tools is encouraged as a way to start children on the path of computer literacy and digital technology. Practical ways of observing, recording, and reporting children's behavior are also included. These are designed to help teachers assess children's growth as well as to determine ways to improve the activities and their own delivery.

This book is divided into four chapters. Each chapter focuses on a theme relevant to fostering and nurturing creativity in young children. Quotations, vignettes, teacher-tips, illustrations, photographs, and sample works are included whenever necessary to clarify, elaborate, and enrich the discussions. After each topic, Pause and Reflect activities provide thought-provoking questions and engaging hands-on activities designed to translate theory into practice. The Chapter Review and Rethink and Revise provide opportunities for correcting misconceptions, affirming previous knowledge, building connections, and awakening curiosity and interest to learn some more and to improve oneself.
