Art Appreciation was written to aid college students in developing their ability to appreciate, analyze, and critique works of art. Using the interdisciplinary approach, this book addresses the learning outcomes prescribed by the Commission on Higher Education for Art Appreciation, such as to demonstrate understanding and appreciation of arts in general including their function, value, and historical significance; to define and demonstrate the elements and principles of design; to explain and evaluate different theories of art; to utilize art for sell-expression and for promoting advocacies; to deepen their sensitivity to sell, community, and society; and to discover and deepen their identity through art with respect to their nationality, culture, and religion; among others.

To this end, this book wishes to contribute to the holistic development of each Filipino learner in the hopes that every college student does not only become a skilled professional or an expert in his field, but one who is also truly human; a kind who does not only think and socialize but one who also appreciates the work of his hands and the beauty that he is capable of producing and beholding.
