Abstract
METHODS OF TEACHING is a book on approaches and procedures employed in the teaching process. Both are considered significant components, without which teaching cannot take place. The essays herein are intended to guide the teachers in planning the smooth operation and management of all the elements contributory to student learning. The detailed discussions emphasize the “collective coordination” of the learning activities in order to ensure a continuous flow from one step to the next. In a case where the progress is hampered by some unexpected circumstances, immediate actions to save the momentum are also suggested.

Part 1 aims to underscore the inseparability of methods to the act of teaching. Without a systematic way of presenting a lesson, it becomes difficult for a teacher to achieve a learning objective. The role of objective is highlighted right at the start. As soon as such is realized, the components (Part 2) that would facilitate the activity with ease are discussed, accompanied by illustrative sample items. Undoubtedly, motivation, techniques of questioning and expressing objectives in behavioral terms can make a difference in any lesson episode.

Part 3 includes teaching methods and strategies that are now effectively being implemented, either through individual participation or by groups. The students are led to create and manage their own styles of acquiring knowledge and developing skills. Chapter Six, on the other hand, requires students to undertake learning tasks in groups, thus promoting cooperation, experience-sharing and collaborative decision-making. Chapter Seven includes methods that could assist an entire class to achieve a goal.

A chapter on assessment and evaluation including the new approaches is included to assist the teacher in ascertaining accurate judgement of students achievement.

The instructional characteristics of each method is discussed including advantages and limitations in employing it. Some suggestions may not work well though the prevailing conditions are similar. The last resolution rests on the perceptive mentor.

Accompanying each method are on the use of technology in the form of tools and modern equipment, technical know-how and improved materials for instruction. Not to be left out are the rich community resources, both material and human and the learning centers established by educational institutions. The much-needed linkage between the school and the community is developed for -the common good and betterment of their lives in both places.

In this revision a Chapter Eight developing assessment and evaluation skills was added to assist the teachers in arriving at worthwhile observations and accurate judgment of students achievements. While the methods have been classified into those appropriate for an individual, a small group or a whole class, each can likewise be tried in other groupings and the resulting interactions and signs of learning and growth may be recorded and accepted as likewise appropriate and effective.

The section on additional learning will definitely show if -a particular method is effective and is worth trying in similar occasions.
