Abstract
Human Resource Management is a work-textbook Intended for Business Administration students. It focuses on the main functions and traditional responsibilities of human resources and touches on current and future trends in people management. The book stimulates students to think critically by presenting experiential and relevant exercises that review the important concepts examined In depth in each chapter.
Human Resource Management is a book intended not only for students taking up Human Resource Management (HRM) as their field of specialization, but also for those enrolled in other fields such as Business, Psychology, Legal Management, and Hotel and Restaurant Management.
This book is a work-textbook with review questions, case studies, and other critical thinking and experiential exercises/activities at the end of each chapter. The students can use them to better appreciate the topics and concepts discussed in each section.
The lessons start with “Introduction to Human Resource Management.” It tells students what HRM is about and summarizes the intention of the author.
The book tackles topics from Human Resource Planning (HRP) in Chapter 1 to Career Management in Chapter 7. The traditional functions of HR are discussed throughout. There are short sub-topics within each chapter under the following headings: Lessons in Human Resource Management, HR Forefront, Trending in HR, and HR Points' to Ponder. Each chapter also provides the three major characteristics of the HR core function which are explored to emphasize the importance of HR in the world of work. All these components stress the underlying philosophy of HRM that not only explains HR roles but also identifies the characteristics of good HR practitioners and the kind of environment that HRM should have.
Having established the form and content of the book, the author has made it as student-friendly as possible-easy to read and to understand. The activities provide an in-depth explanation of the concepts discussed as well.
