Abstract
This book introduces students to the concepts of measurement, testing, assessment and evaluation. As assessment is a broad concept, this book is divided into five sections. The first section provides information as to how assessment is used before, during and after instruction. The purposes and relevance of assessment are likewise discussed. The next section guides the students in their selection of appropriate assessment methods, taking into consideration the different quality benchmarks such as validity, reliability, practicality, efficiency and ethical principles. The subsequent section engages students in constructing sample test items following accepted guidelines. The different test formats are discussed: constructed response as well as selected response types. The advantages and limitations of each type are presented. The contents of this section are crucial to develop learners' skills in creating their own tests. Meanwhile, the fourth section explains how test scores are interpreted, graded and reported. The book essentially covers the whole of the assessment cycle from planning to reporting/revising. Another important feature of this book is the last section which is devoted to a brief but interesting discussion on implementation of large-scale assessments. Standardized tests are usually used in large-scale testing where validity and reliability are major considerations.

The authors designed this book to allow iearners to understand the rudiment of assessment and how assessment is carried out in the classroom level as a science because there is method in it and as an art because it requires skill. This book is 'a learning resource and each'chapter contains facts, concepts, principles and/ or related theories consolidated from current textbooks, research articles and documents from educational agencies. The learner will find several activities and tasks aligned to the intended learning outcomes. A set of multiple choice test items is provided at the end of each section to help learners prepare for their Summative tests or review for the licensure examinations.
